A driveway is a structure first
Everything decorative on a driveway sits on top of a slab that has to carry vehicles for decades, which means base depth, thickness and reinforcement are decided by engineering and the finish is chosen afterwards. That order matters. A stamped driveway on an inadequate base fails exactly as fast as a plain one on the same base, and the failure is more expensive because the surface was worth more. We will not put a decorative finish on a slab we would not have poured plain.
